# Add a PDF

> Save PDFs directly to NotebookLM from your browser

With Web Clipper for NotebookLM installed, you can add PDFs directly to your notebooks while viewing them in your browser.

## How it works

When viewing a PDF in your browser's native PDF viewer, an **Add to NotebookLM** button appears in the bottom right corner of the screen.

## Add a PDF

1. Open any PDF in your browser
2. Click the **Add to NotebookLM** button in the bottom right corner
3. Select an existing notebook from the modal, or create a new one
4. The modal closes and a confirmation notification appears

Your PDF is now added as a source in NotebookLM—start asking questions and uncovering insights.

## Requirements

<Warning>
  The PDF must be hosted online. Locally stored PDFs (opened via `file://`) cannot be added to NotebookLM as the file needs to be accessible via a public URL.
</Warning>

## What you can do with PDF sources

Once added, NotebookLM can:

* Break down complex research papers into digestible summaries
* Answer specific questions about the document
* Cross-reference findings with your other sources
* Generate study guides or briefing notes from lengthy reports
