With Web Clipper for NotebookLM installed, you can add PDFs directly to your notebooks while viewing them in your browser.
How it works
When viewing a PDF in your browser’s native PDF viewer, an Add to NotebookLM button appears in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Add a PDF
- Open any PDF in your browser
- Click the Add to NotebookLM button in the bottom right corner
- Select an existing notebook from the modal, or create a new one
- The modal closes and a confirmation notification appears
Your PDF is now added as a source in NotebookLM—start asking questions and uncovering insights.
Requirements
The PDF must be hosted online. Locally stored PDFs (opened via file://) cannot be added to NotebookLM as the file needs to be accessible via a public URL.
What you can do with PDF sources
Once added, NotebookLM can:
- Break down complex research papers into digestible summaries
- Answer specific questions about the document
- Cross-reference findings with your other sources
- Generate study guides or briefing notes from lengthy reports
